“Association of pregnancy with long-term trajectories of cardiovascular health”
Pregnancy is the first “stress test” women will experience that may exacerbate cardiovascular risk factors. Little is known about how pregnancy impacts cardiovascular health (CVH), as defined
by the AHA. We examined the effects of a first birth on trajectories of CVH in a
community-based sample of biracial women.

"Favorable Cardiovascular Health, Compression of Morbidity, and Health Care Costs: 40-Year Follow Up of the Chicago Heart Association Detection Project in Industry."
Favorable cardiovascular health has been associated with reductions in CVD incidence and mortality. However, little is known about its joint effects on morbidity and mortality. In this talk we will present
the findings from our study examining whether favorable CV health is associated with a longer,
healthier life free of chronic diseases or whether it simply extends life at the expense of increasing morbidity and healthcare costs.

“Neighborhood level effects on disparities in CVD” and “Neighborhoods and socioeconomic disparities in health behaviors”
Dr. Kiarri Kershaw will be giving two practice talks for the upcoming AHA Scientific Sessions. The talk
on neighborhood level effects on disparities in CVD is part of a session on capturing SES in population
studies and big data. As such, the focus will be on methodologic approaches to measuring the
neighborhood socioeconomic environment. The second talk is part of a hybrid session on
psychology and economics to promote healthy lifestyles. In this talk, she will provide a broader overview
of the multiple aspects of the neighborhood environment that may contribute to socioeconomic
disparities in health disparities. She will also discuss challenges to studying neighborhood effects and
future directions for the field.

"The familial hypercholesterolemia phenotype in the US is associated with an age-dependent increase in long-term coronary heart disease risk."
The talk is a practice for AHA. The presentation will describe risk estimates generated from
the Lifetime Risk Pooling project, to give a better sense of the burden of disease in the
entire US population of FH patients, including those currently undiagnosed.

"Herpesviruses: A Novel Pathway Explaining Socioeconomic Disparities in Cardiovascular Disease and Depression"
Despite declining rates of cardiovascular disease(CVD)-related mortality in the U.S., socioeconomic disparities in CVD incidence and morbidity persist. Herpesviruses that have been implicated in the etiology of CVD as well as other concomitant conditions such as depression and for which seropositivity and immune control pattern strongly by social factors may serve as a novel pathway by which socioeconomic disparities in CVD occur among U.S. adults. Studies examining links between socioeconomic position, herpesviruses, CVD and depression will be discussed.
