“Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) as a potential mediator of obesity in mice and man”

Elevated plasma levels of plasminogen activator inhibitor type 1 (PAI-1) are associated with obesity in cross-sectional observational studies. However, longitudinal data in humans are limited. We investigated the association of PAI-1 and incident obesity in the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis and subsequently performed a proof of concept study in a diet-induced murine model of obesity with a novel small molecule antagonist of PAI-1.
