Creating Community through Cross-Cultural Conversations
Due to the pandemic and the travel restrictions it has imposed worldwide,
physically participating in a study abroad program has become unattainable for the time being. In summer of 2020, Rifka received an International Classroom Partnering Grant to implement a project where NU students can “travel virtually” to simulate an immersion experience while interacting with students in the Argentine university Torcuato Di Tella. This presentation will showcase how a community amongst students was built, the types of
activities developed to accomplish the learning objectives, as well as the challenges faced in the process.
This talk will be conducted in English.
Rifka Cook is Associate Professor of Instruction in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Northwestern University. Her research interests include Judeo-Spanish language and literature, Sephardic culture, the use of technological tools in the FL classroom, and the study of student's learning styles.
