Please join us for a Fireside Chat on new and emerging security challenges for social media companies with Roland Cloutier, Global Chief Security Officer at TikTok, and V.S. Subrahmanian, Walter P. Murphy Professor of Computer Science at the Northwestern McCormick School of Engineering and Northwestern Buffett Faculty Fellow. The discussion will be moderated by Northwestern Buffett Executive Director Annelise Riles and followed by a Q&A session.

About the Speakers:

As Global Chief Security Officer of TikTok, Roland Cloutier brings an unprecedented understanding and knowledge of global protection and security leadership to one of the world's largest leading media, social and online technology companies. With over 25 years of experience in the military, law enforcement and commercial sector, Cloutier is one of today’s leading experts in corporate and enterprise security, cyber-defense program development and business operations protection. Cloutier has functional and operational responsibility for cyber, information protection, data defense, operational risk, workforce protection, crisis management and investigative security operations worldwide.

V.S. Subrahmanian is a global authority on cybersecurity issues, including malicious behavior on social media. His commentary on Russia’s disinformation capabilities during its invasion of Ukraine appeared in the Financial Times, ABC News, and Telemundo, among other outlets. Subrahmanian is the Walter P. Murphy Professor of Computer Science at Northwestern University's McCormick School of Engineering and a Faculty Fellow at Northwestern's Roberta Buffett Institute for Global Affairs. He has also spoken at the United Nations, on Capitol Hill, and the Mumbai Stock Exchange and authored numerous publications.

Annelise Riles is Northwestern University’s Associate Provost for Global Affairs and Executive Director of the Northwestern Roberta Buffett Institute for Global Affairs. Her scholarship spans a wide range of substantive areas including human rights, managing and accommodating cultural differences, and the regulation of global financial markets. Dr. Riles is also the founder and director of Meridian 180, a forum for multilingual dialogue and scholarship.
