The Deportation Research Clinic for the last 10 years has been producing impactful findings and legal analyses leading to historic court verdicts and policies addressing government misconduct. A trial catalyzed by Clinic research resulted in a federal jury finding the private prison firm GEO guilty of employment law violations. GEO was then ordered to pay $17.3 million to those in GEO custody, and $5.9 million to the State of Washington for Unjust Enrichment. Eight other related class action lawsuits are now underway.
Please join us on May 24, 2022 at 5 p.m. in Scott Hall, Ripton 201 or Zoom to hear presentations on this and other important findings from our FOIA litigation. Clinic assistants and Political Science Farrell Fellows Lorenzo Garcia, Douglas Lee, Grant Li, and Caleb Young (also an Eva Jefferson Paterson Fellow), also as well as Minji Kim and Clinic Founding Director, Professor Jacqueline Stevens will describe the Clinic's work. At 5:45 we will move to the Scott Hall courtyard for pizza and more conversation.
