Description:

This talk will examine a stunning example of paper cutting and joining prepared by the Ottoman courtier, album maker, and "paper joiner" Kalender Pasha (d. 1616). The folio’s aesthetic qualities help to explain both why paper cutting became such a popular art form in the early-modern Ottoman court, and why Kalender’s work was especially appreciated by his contemporaries.
