"Students for Fair Admissions and the Ongoing Struggle over Counter-Majoritarianism in American Democracy"*
by Anthony Chen, Associate Professor of Sociology and of Political Science (by courtesy) and IPR Fellow
In this talk, Chen will trace the origins, development, and disposition of Students for Fair Admissions (SFFA), the 2023 Supreme Court decision invalidating the affirmative action plans operated by Harvard College and the University of North Carolina. He will place SFFA in the context of several other important recent decisions by the Roberts Court. He will reflect on where they all might fit in the current flow of American politics and what they might say about the potentially changing role of the high court in American democracy.
This event is part of the Fay Lomax Cook Fall 2023 Colloquium Series, where IPR researchers from around the University share their latest policy-relevant research.
Please note all colloquia this quarter will be held in-person only.
*This research presentation will involve work in progress.
