Description:

Please join the Race, Ethnicity, and Politics Workshop as they host Kiela Crabtree, Assistant Professor of Political Science at Emory University.

Dr. Kiela Crabtree is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Emory University with a focus on the politics of race, identity, violence, and conflict in the United States. Crabtree's work focuses on the impact of violence -- specifically racially-targeted violence -- on political participation and public opinion. Crabtree's research also considers the political legacies of conflict in the United States, emphasizing dynamics of social identity and hierarchy. With interests in both contemporary and historical conflict, Crabtree has conducted intensive archival work on the legacies of Civil Rights Era violence and terrorism in the American south, and continues to examine the implications of such violence for present-day political behavior.

Crabtree earned a PhD. in Political Science from the University of Michigan in 2022, and a B.A. in Politics at Sewanee: the University of the South. From 2022-2023, Crabtree was a post-doctoral fellow at Emory University's James Weldon Johnson Institute for the Study of Race and Difference.
