Meet the Block Museum Student Associates in our galleries for a close look at works on view in Looking 101.
The average museum visitor spends less than 30 seconds looking at a work of art. It usually takes us far less than that to draw conclusions about what we see; the human brain seems to perform this work automatically and instantaneously. How do we slow down our looking habits to better understand the process of meaning-making? How do our individual backgrounds and lived experiences affect how and what we see?
Block Museum Student Associates (BMSAs) are Northwestern undergraduates representing interdisciplinary fields of study from across the university. In the galleries, the BMSAs engage The Block’s visitors in conversations about artworks that spark their curiosity and ideas that are relevant to our lives today.
Programs are open to all, on a first-come first-served basis. RSVPs not required, but appreciated.
