Description:

The "East Meets West" scholar series of Northwestern University's Russian, Eurasian, and East European Studies Research Program (REEES), the Center for Communication and Public Policy (CCPP) at the School of Communication, the Buffett Institute for Global Affairs, and Weinberg College Center for International and Area Studies, cordially invite you to an academic discussion entitled "Competing for Hearts and Minds in Central Asia: Great Power Competition Between China, Russia and the United States."

This event will feature a presentation of comparative public opinion survey studies conducted by Kasiet Ysmanova, Director of Central Asia Barometer, and Raushan Abylkassymova, Project Manager at the same institution. These data, collected over several waves of inquiry, offer a deep understanding of Central Asian publics’ perceptions of the strategic intentions and economic, political, and cultural influences exerted by the global powerhouses of China, Russia, and the United States within the region and beyond.

Moderated by Dr. Olga Kamenchuk, Associate Professor of Research and Instruction at the School of Communication and Institute for Policy Research, Northwestern University, this dialogue is designed for scholars, policymakers, journalists, and students with a keen interest in Central Asian studies, Great Power rivalry, international relations, and public diplomacy.

We invite you to join this critical discourse on May 15th at 10:00 AM Central Time via Zoom, as we navigate the intricate dynamics of geopolitics and public sentiment in Central Asia.

Your participation will contribute to a deeper academic conversation about the shifting landscape of international relations in this strategically pivotal region.
