Join us for a film screening of Dr. Reynaldo Antonio Morales’ latest documentary film, The Fly Back: Restoring Territorial Rights in the Ucayali Basin. Dr. Morales is a Faculty Fellow at Northwestern University's Roberta Buffett Institute for Global Affairs and an Assistant Professor at the Northwestern Medill School of Journalism.

The film tells the story of the "largest and longest" conflict in the Amazon and the collective resistance of the Shipibo Konibo and Xetebo tribes against a regional conservation area, imposed on their territories in violation of prior consent laws.

The film won the Best Feature Film Award at the New York Film Festival in January 2024; Best Environmental Film, Best Humanitarian Film, Best Human Rights Film and Best Indigenous/Native Film at the Cannes World Film Festival's Remember the Future competition in January 2024; Exceptional Merit Award at the Hispanic International Film Festival in winter 2024; Outstanding Achievement Award at the 10th Season of the Beyond Border International Film Festival; Official Selection of the Nature Without Borders International Film Festival in spring 2024; and Official Selection of the Amazonia del Plata International Film Festival in Argentina in spring 2024. The screening will be followed by a brief Q&A with Dr. Morales.
