At this event co-hosted by the Buffett Institute’s Race, Caste and Colorism Global Working Group, performance artist Sri Vamsi Matta will join Translators’ Adda— a workshop series for discussion of translated texts from South Asia established by Soumya Rachel Shailendra and Ishan Mehandru through the Kaplan Public Humanities Fellowship at Northwestern University—for a staged reading of his play Star in the Sky followed by a moderated conversation with Masi Asare, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Theatre at the Northwestern University School of Communication. Adapted from a Telugu short story, the play relays the life and death of Ambedkarite activist and scholar, Rohith Vemula.
