The Buffett Institute is launching a new faculty research lunchtime talk series on the first Friday of every month. Faculty members will give a half-hour talk intended for a broad, multidisciplinary audience of Northwestern students, faculty and staff, followed by a conversational Q&A.

On the first Friday in October, Karen Alter, Norman Dwight Harris Professor of International Relations at the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, will talk about her time reviewing the government agency that creates U.S. export control policy. She will discuss how academics can work in government and how export controls reflect a growing appetite for coercive economic statecraft.
