Emma Barber, MD, is a gynecologic oncologist whose research focuses on mitigating the toxicity of gynecologic cancer treatment so patients can better tolerate cancer treatments, improve their quality of life, and ultimately live longer. This lecture will review the role of physical activity in a high symptom burden population, patients with gynecologic cancers undergoing active treatment. We will discuss research results about the role of physical activity in predicting adverse events and toxicity from cancer surgery and ongoing research to determine if physical activity interventions can mitigate the toxicity of cancer treatment including both chemotherapy and surgery.
