In 1598, Peruvian-born Luis Jerónimo de Oré published El Symbolo catholico indiano, followed by Juan Pérez Bocanegra’s Ritual formulario in 1631. Both works feature poetry written in Quechua aimed at helping Andean new converts grasp the Catholic faith. In this talk, Catalina Andrango-Walker focuese on the strategies employed by these authors, who were experts in Andean culture, to introduce neophytes to unfamiliar religious concepts.
