“Understanding the Relationship between Social Factors, Physical Activity, and Obesity in Hispanics/Latinos”
Presented by:
Rosenda Murillo, PhD
Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Department of Preventive Medicine
Obesity is a risk factor for chronic disease (i.e., heart disease) and the burden of obesity is not shared equally across the US population. Physical inactivity is a risk factor for obesity; however, high physical inactivity rates are observed in Hispanics/Latinos compared to other ethnic groups. Family-based interventions may be appropriate for physical activity promotion in Hispanics/Latinos.
