Speaker: Dalia Abd El-Hameed, Head of the Gender Program at the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR)

Description:

The talk will discuss the recent changes in the status of sexual rights in Egypt. The crackdown against gays and trans people will be discussed along with the efforts of the activists to raise awareness about this issue. Also, the current situation of sexual violence will be examined, highlighting the role of the state and the grass-root groups resisting sexual violence in Egypt. 

Bio:

Dalia Abd El-Hameed is the Gender and Women's Rights Officer at the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR). She is an MA student in the Sociology/ Anthropology program at the American University in Cairo where she is currently writing her thesis on the organized football fandom in Egypt; the Ultras and the subject construction.
