Description:

This conference examines the relationship between race, property, and the law, in widely diverse settings. The conference will convene at 2 pm on Thursday, May 7th with a panel of graduate student presenters, which will be followed by the keynote lecture by political theorist Bonnie Honig, the Nancy Duke Lewis Professor of Modern Culture and Media and Political Science at Brown University. The conference will reconvene at 8:30 am on Friday, May 8th with a panel examining the role of race and property in the contest for the Ohio and Mississippi River Valleys in the 18th and 19th centuries, and culminate with a panel examining the interaction between race and property in the 20th and the 21st century, with an emphasis on Chicago.
