Employment & Breastfeeding: Understanding the Impact of Policy and the Workplace Environment on Disparities in Breastfeeding Practices.
Policy support for breastfeeding in the workplace is minimal. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) provided the first federal legislation that directly supports breastfeeding through the Reasonable Break Time for Nursing Mothers Provision. There are a number of laws at the state level that directly address breastfeeding in the workplace, although these state laws have not been amply studied. Dr. Dalianis will discuss her evaluations of these state laws in relation to the ACA and the relationship between state laws and breastfeeding amongst working women. Lunch will be provided!
