Workshop Description:

STEM courses have the challenge of transmitting a large amount of content in very limited time! And so, integrating active learning into courses can be particularly difficult to manage, but critical to students' understanding and integration of complex concepts. This workshop provides strategies for weaving active learning into lecture-based classes. Active learning strategies provide students the ability to engage meaningfully with the material, to offer productive comments, respond to students’ questions and comments, and help students to respond to one another's thinking during lecture. This workshop also covers planning an active lecture, and addresses issues of scalability.

Workshop Facilitators:

Kate is a fourth-year doctoral student in Psychology studying changes in structural and functional connectivity of motivation in bipolar disorder.

Uzma Wilson is a 2nd year PhD student in the Communication Sciences & Disorders department. Before joining Northwestern, Uzma received her Doctor of Audiology degree from Missouri State University.

*STEM Workshops are part of CIRTL at Northwestern which serves graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to improve undergraduate learning in STEM.
