Applying Your Global Health Minor to a Career in Medicine Guest Speaker: Dr. Julia Polk

Julia Polk, MD, is a faculty attending obstetrician and gynecologist at Mount Sinai St. Luke’s and Mount Sinai West. In addition, she is a clinical instructor of obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive science at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. In 2007, she received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Northwestern, with a major in anthropology and minor in global health. The following year, she pursued her interest in global health as an instructor and research intern at the National School of Public Health in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Dr. Polk received her medical education at the Ben Gurion University Medical School for International Health, in Beer Sheva, Israel. The school has an association with Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. During medical school she spent time rotating in rural medical facilities in Ethiopia and India. After graduating from medical school in 2012, Dr. Polk became a resident in obstetrics and gynecology at Drexel University College of Medicine, receiving two awards for her excellence in teaching.
