"Genomic tracking of the intra- and inter-hospital spread of multi-drug resistant organisms"
Evan Snitkin, PhD / University of Michigan
Description:
The application of whole genome sequencing (WGS) to study antibiotic resistant organisms is yielding fundamental insights into their evolution and epidemiology. However, despite its great potential, there have thus far been few examples in which WGS has yielded insights that can be immediately translated to reduce the spread of antibiotic resistance. Here, I will present recent work from our group integrating WGS with clinical and epidemiological meta-data to identify the drivers of intra- and inter-hospital spread of multi-drug resistant organisms.
