Readings from Modern Korean Literature in Translation
Sunyoung Park, Associate Professor of East Asian Languages and Cultures and Gender Studies at the University of Southern California. She is the editor and translator of On the Eve of the Uprising and Other Stories from Colonial Korea(Cornell East Asia Series, 2010) and the editor and co-translator of Ready-Made Bodhisattva: The Kaya Anthology of South Korean Science Fiction (Kaya Press, forthcoming 2018). She is currently writing a monograph on science fiction in South Korean literature and film, and she is the chief editor of the Magpie Series in Modern and Contemporary Korean Literature at Kaya Press in Los Angeles.
Mi-Ryong Shim, Assistant Professor of Asian Languages and Cultures at Northwestern University. Her translations of modern Korean literature have been published as part of the Literature Translation Institute of Korea's 20th Century Korean Literature series. She is completing an English translation of Pollen, Yi Hyo-sŏk's popular novel from 1939 and one of the earliest works of modern Korean literature to provide a sustained treatment of female sexuality and homosexuality.
