Luz Marina Giraldo Mora's work on issues of gender, reconciliation, and reincorporation has been recognized by the UN Verification Mission in Colombia, and the Meta department government that honored her in 2018 with the "Grand Order of Women from Meta" award.
After a violence-ridden upbringing in Colombia, Luz Marina joined the FARC. Luz Marina participated in writing workshops while in prison and her work has been published in the Fugas de Tinta anthology. In 2001, she became one of the first five doctors from the guerrilla group to have a medical degree. She has now taken on new leadership since the peace accord, and is one of a few ex-combatants that gives talks and represents their work at regional and national working groups and conferences.
