Abstract
Our understanding of the genetic basis of Parkinson disease has evolved dramatically over the last decade. Here I will discuss the path of that evolution and where this route will take over the next few years. I will discuss the genetic investigation of risk and progression, in addition to discussing how we investigate the variability of known genetic subtypes of PD. I will discuss disease prediction and categorization using both genetic and other data. Lastly I will discuss some of the tools and data types that are offering new opportunities in moving from gene to function.
