Description:

CHETchat: Spotlight Series ft. Dr. Raj Shah and Dr. Fernando de Maio

Fernando De Maio, PhD and Raj Shah, MD serve as the Co-Directors of the Center for Community Health Equity, a collaboration between Depaul University and Rush University.

Fernando De Maio is a sociologist specializing in the social determinants of health. Much of his work has revolved around the “income inequality hypothesis”, an idea that suggests that our health is dependent not just on our own income or our family’s income – but on how income is distributed in our communities. He has also conducted work on the effects of discrimination on the health of immigrants. He teaches courses at DePaul on health equity, global health, and statistical analysis.

Raj Shah is a geriatrician at Rush University  Medical Center and an Associate Professor at the Rush Alzheimer’s Disease Center  for over 15 years, his academic interest is the design and conduct of community-based clinical trials for the prevention, diagnosis, and  treatment of common age-related conditions in diverse older adults.

Join us as we consider past and current day risks taken to achieve equity, including whether one would choose to become an “un-hidden" figure and why.

Lunch will be provided.

RSVP here! (not required but encouraged for catering purposes)
