The Global Poverty Research Lab is kicking off its Speaker Series with a presentation by Professor Andrew Dillon (Kellogg). He will talk about how his experiences led him to research in developing countries, as well as discuss his recent project, “Making Markets: Experiments from Rural Mali.”
How do we create markets to offer products that can help reduce poverty? Increased adoption of agricultural inputs has the potential to help African farmers boost production, increase farm profitability, and reduce poverty, but input markets are often unavailable to rural farmers. We test different theories of market creation in a randomized controlled trial implemented in rural Mali, presenting study results and discussing plans for scaling up successful components of the intervention.
After the presentation, he will be taking questions on his research and how to get involved with research opportunities on campus.
