David Shifrin has regrettably needed to cancel his appearance at Northwestern.

One of only two wind players to receive the Avery Fisher Prize, David Shifrin has appeared with major orchestras throughout the US, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. He has served as principal clarinetist with the Cleveland Orchestra, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, the New York Chamber Symphony, and the American, Honolulu, and Dallas Symphony Orchestras. An acclaimed recitalist, he has performed at such venues as Washington’s Library of Congress, New York’s Alice Tully Hall and 92nd Street Y, and Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall and Zankel Hall. His collaborators have included such distinguished ensembles and artists as Wynton Marsalis, pianists Emanuel Ax and André Watts, and the Guarneri, Tokyo, and Emerson String Quartets. Shifrin has received three Grammy nominations, and his recording of the Mozart Clarinet Concerto with the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra was named Record of the Year by Stereo Review.
