Seminar Title: Genomic Epidemiology and Mutational Analyses of SARS-CoV-2 Viruses Causing COVID-19 in Chicago
Speaker: Egon Anderson Ozer, MD, PhD / Assistant Professor, Medicine
Topic:
SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for causing COVID-19, spread quickly across the United States and the world. By examining variations in the genetic sequence of the virus, we have been able to characterize the diversity of the viruses contributing to the pandemic in Chicago and elucidate their likely US and global origins. Genomic analysis is allowing several further investigations including assessing the correlations of viral genome sequences to clinical characteristics, tracking viral transmissions between hosts, and assessing for sequence variability over the course of an infection.
