Title: How Testosterone Shapes the T cell Response in Neuroinflammatory Disease
Speaker: Melissa Brown, PhD / Professor/ Northwestern University
Host: Laimonis Laimins, PhD
Topic:
It is well established that males are less susceptible to autoimmune disease than females. Yet the underpinnings of this protection are still unclear. I will discuss our recent studies aimed at understanding the role of the male sex hormone testosterone in altering autoreactive immune responses that drive neuroinflammation. Understanding sex-biased immune responses is also likely to have important consequences for vaccine development and treatment of infection and cancer.
