M-I Dept. Virtual Seminar - Stochasticity and Heterogeneity during Biphasic Reactivation of Herpesviruses

Tuesday, April 6, 2021 | 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM CT
Online

Title: “Stochasticity and Heterogeneity during Biphasic Reactivation of Herpesviruses”

Speaker: JJ Miranda, PhD/ Barnard College

Host: Eva Gottwein, PhD, Associate Professor

Topic: Our team studies quantitative aspects of viral gene expression during different stages of the life cycle. A particular emphasis will be placed on the Kaposi sarcoma-associated herpesvirus and Epstein-Barr virus during reactivation. In the bigger picture, these examples of stochasticity and heterogeneity may yield insights into strategies evolutionarily conserved among a wider array of microbial populations. We will also tell an additional short story about measuring SARS-CoV-2 from dorm toilets.
