Description:

Join MSA for our annual Dia de los Muertos/Day of the Dead Celebration. This year we are partnering with CCS for this special talk featuring Chicana author Malin Alegria, author of the Disney storybook adaptation of Coco.

Storytellers. We all have them. You know you do. Maybe it's your tía who lowers her voice as she spills family secrets at the kitchen table. Perhaps it's your uncle who will give you a magical tale. These are our storytellers...our spirit food. Their stories tell us who we are, where we've been, and lift us up for things to come. As a Chicana author, I have had the honor and responsibility of sharing my family, my cultura, in mainstream publication. This Dia de Los Muertos I want to invite you to join me in a talk about storytellers, mis muertos. I will share tales of quinceañera disasters to writing for Coco. And how we can celebrate our culture with commercial success while protecting our stories from cultural appropriation.
