Description:

Please join the South Asia Research Forum for this Hindi-Urdu Workshop.  The speaker will be remote with an in-person audience. 

This workshop will introduce participants to rekhti, a nineteenth-century poetic genre in Urdu in which male poets write and speak as women. The workshop will feature Jan Sahib’s Jashn-e Benazir, a carnivalesque narrative of a festival in Rampur. Conducted in English and Urdu, with workshop materials provided in Devanagri and Nasta‘liq scrips. 

Speaker: Dr. Razak Khan is a Research Fellow at Georg-August-Universität Göttingen. His first book is Minority Pasts: Locality, Emotions and Belonging in Rampur.
