Description:

Graduate students and postdocs with a strong interest in teaching are invited to join the Searle Center for a half-day retreat focused on sparking their own and their students’ curiosity.

Curiosity is a key trait for the successful navigation of new demands during challenging times. Sparking student curiosity is a core goal of many instructors, but how can we do this when we are struggling to engage ourselves? A large body of research from a variety of disciplines highlights the importance of maintaining one’s curiosity, particularly for educators. At the Winter Retreat, participants will examine a variety of ways in which both students and their own curiosity can not only be sparked but nurtured into meaningful learning experiences.

During this event, participants will deeply engage in an interactive session led by Steven Adams, Librarian for Graduate and Postdoctoral Initiatives; workshop teaching materials in small groups with peers, and build community with other graduate students and postdocs invested in teaching. Lunch will be served.
