Title:
Exit Strategies: Egress of Herpesviruses from the Nucleus and Beyond
Speaker:
Richard Roller, PhD,

Department of Microbiology and Immunology
University of Iowa
Topic:
Herpesviruses are stunningly successful pathogens, with most humans infected with at least two or three different species. These viruses establish life-long latent infections and periodically reactivate and then spread within and between hosts. In reactivation, the virus spreads despite the development of a potent adaptive immune response. Its ability to do so depends in part on the virus pathways for egress from infected cells. This seminar will focus on the function of pathways that promote both virus egress and spread between epithelial cells.
