Title:

Rules that Govern Packaging and Repackaging of the HIV-1 Genomic RNA

Speaker:

Sebla B. Kutluay, PhD, Associate Professor, Department of Molecular Microbiology
Washington University School of Medicine

Topic:

Successful propagation and transmission of HIV-1 depends on selective packaging of the viral genomic RNA into virions. Work in the Kutluay lab revealed that the packaged genomic RNA molecules need to be repackaged inside the remodeled capsid lattice during virus maturation, a process driven by an unexpected property of the viral integrase enzyme. Published and ongoing work aimed at revealing new rules that govern these key processes and consequences of perturbing them will be presented.

Host:

Mojgan Naghavi, PhD, Professor, Dept. of Microbiology-Immunology
