This year’s lively Spring Festival Concert brings together incomparable Handel choral music and Italian instrumental works. Composed in 1739, Handel’s Ode for St. Cecilia's Day exalts the wonder and beauty of music itself in depictive arias and stirring choruses. Rounding out this joyful evening are Antonio Vivaldi’s sparkling Flute Concerto in D Major, “Il gardellino,” and Giovanni Legrenzi’s Prima Sonata for four violins and continuo.
G. F. Handel, Ode for St. Cecilia’s Day, HWV 76 (Part I)
Evaristo Felice Dall’Abaco, Concerto grosso à più instrumenti in D Major, Op. 5, No. 6
Claudio Monteverdi, Gloria a 7, SV 258 Selva morale e spirituale
G. F. Handel, Ode for St. Cecilia’s Day, HWV 76 (Part II)
Antonio Vivaldi, Flute Concerto in D Major (“Il gardellino”), RV 428
G. F. Handel, Ode for St. Cecilia’s Day, HWV 76 (Conclusion)
