"Advancing the uptake of effective health services via implementation science"
Implementation science aims to answer the question, “how do we equitably and intentionally bridge the gap between what we know and what we do in public health and medical practice?” This question is deceptively simple, but the know-do gap is large, persistent, and challenging to close. Bridging this gap requires the use of unique implementation frameworks, strategies, and outcomes, to ensure that methods can be translated to different settings, populations, and health conditions. Dr. Sara Becker, Inaugural Director of the new Center for Dissemination and Implementation Science, will introduce members of the Center for Translational Pain Research to foundational principles in the field of implementation science. She will first address the why and how of implementation science, by providing a rationale for and definitions of key concepts in the field. She will then present in-depth case examples of studies applying implementation science methods, including a new center grant designed to support pain and substance use researchers. Finally, she will discuss the creation of the new Center for Dissemination and Implementation Science and the new resources available to the Northwestern community.
