In this talk, CASMI visiting researcher Associate Professor Francisco Iacobelli (Northeastern Illinois University) will describe the process, considerations and challenges of developing a platform for an intelligent tutoring system where disadvantaged adult populations are the focus. The impact considerations are three-fold: (a) on the population we are trying to help; (b) on the students that participate; and (c) on advancing intelligent user interfaces aimed at underserved populations. Professor Iacobelli will describe a community-based approach to research and design, as well as the need for AI that is designed with underserved populations from its inception. Lastly, he will discuss the current state of this project and future research.
