Description:

Center for Catalysis and Surface Science (CCSS) Monthly Meeting

When: Friday, June 7, 2024 | 12:00 – 1:00pm

Where: Ryan Hall, 4003 | Online via Zoom

What: Shaping a Sustainable Future

Speaker: Dr. Amanda Hickman, Senior Director of Research, Honeywell UOP

Abstract: The sustainability imperative is accelerating on a global scale. 55% of Global 200 companies have established a public target date for the partial or total elimination of greenhouse gas emissions. Honeywell has technology solutions that can address ~50% global emissions. This talk will highlight recent advances in clean hydrogen technology, sustainable aviation fuel, and other important levers to reduce greenhouse gases. Further, it will highlight how fundamental material innovation and catalysis research is critical to delivering a net-zero future.

Speaker Bio: Amanda Hickman has a PhD in inorganic chemistry from the University of Michigan, where she conducted research on novel homogeneous catalysts for C-H activation and functionalization. She has 12 years of technical experience in the refining and petrochemical industry, working at Honeywell UOP, a leader in process technology and innovation. Throughout her career at Honeywell, she has developed catalysts and processes for energy and environmental applications including clean hydrogen production, carbon capture, biodegradable surfactants, adsorptive separations, and contaminant removal. As Senior Director of Research she leads a team responsible for developing next generation ideas to drive organic growth through portfolio renewal and new adjacencies.  She is passionate about advancing sustainable technology through innovation and customer collaboration.

The Center for Catalysis and Surface Science (CCSS) monthly meetings host speakers, as well as provide tutorials,  research updates and facilitate team collaboration.

The mission of the Center for Catalysis and Surface Science (CCSS) is to promote interdisciplinary research fundamental to the discovery, synthesis, and understanding of catalysts and catalytic reactions essential to modern society. As a part of the Paula M. Trienens Institute for Sustainability and Energy, CCSS applies fundamental advances in catalysis science towards applications in alternative fuels, abatement of harmful emissions, resource recovery concepts, new processing routes, and many other strategies towards making chemicals more sustainable.
