Title: Virus-Host Cell Interactions that Regulate Human Papillomavirus  Replication

Speaker:

Cary Moody, Associate Professor, Dept. of Microbiology and Immunology, University of North Carolina School of Medicine

Topic:

Certain types of human papillomavirus (HPV) are associated with several human cancers; however, no specific antiviral therapies exist. The limited coding capacity of HPV genomes renders them dependent on host cell resources for viral replication. We are interested in identifying host cell signaling pathways that HPV commandeers or inhibits to facilitate viral replication throughout the viral life cycle. Understanding mechanisms that regulate viral replication may reveal novel targets for therapeutic development against HPV-associated diseases.

Host: Laimonis Laimins, Professor and Chair, Dept. of Microbiology-Immunology
