Carlos Lozada is a New York Times Opinion columnist and the author of What Were We Thinking: A Brief Intellectual History of the Trump Era. He won the Pulitzer Prize for criticism in 2019. He joined The Times in September 2022 after 17 years at The Washington Post, where he was a nonfiction book critic, Outlook editor, national security editor, and economics editor. He is also a member of the Pulitzer Prize Board.

Deborah Cohen is the Richard W. Leopold Professor of History at Northwestern University. Her latest book is Last Call at the Hotel Imperial: The Reporters Who Took on a World at War.
