Come meet Silyane Larcher, who will be joining the Northwestern faculty in January 2024, as Associate Professor of Gender Studies and Black Studies. Professor Larcher’s research focuses on the tensions between race, citizenship and universalism in France. She is the author of L’autre citoyen: L’idéal républicain et les Antilles après l’esclavage and co-editor (with Felix Germain) of Black French Women and the Struggle for Equality (1848-2016). Her current book project is on Afro-feminism in France. In conversation with Gender Studies Director Nick Davis and Black Studies Chair Mary Pattillo, Larcher will talk about her past and current research projects, her editorship of the journal Revue Marronnages, and her plans for the move to Northwestern.
