Presentation:
“Regulation of mitochondrial health during tissue regeneration”
Abstact:
Mitochondrial damage is a hallmark of aging and common human diseases, and the mechanisms by which tissues accommodate dysfunctional organelles are under intense investigation. We discuss here the consequences of mitochondrial electron transport chain dysfunction in stem cell populations, in order to understand how tissues promote the regeneration of healthy tissue and unearth strategies to combat accumulating mitochondrial damage during an organism’s lifespan.

Professor of Medicine (Pulmonary and Critical Care) and Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics
