Description:

Research in Progress by Chicago KUH FORWARD Trainees:

1.  Dr. Andrea Liu is a postdoctoral scholar at University of Chicago. Dr. Liu's TL1 research project focuses on prolonged catheter use for hemodialysis. In particular, she is interested in improving our understanding of the morbidity and mortality of catheters compared to permanent access and examining how shared decision making influences the transition from catheters to permanent access.

2.  Dr. Alyssa Varsanik is a postdoctoral scholar at University of Chicago. Dr. Varsanik’s research focuses on understanding the failure modes of arterial-venous fistulas (AVF) in dialysis access patients.  Specifically, she is investigating the geometric stress points of AVF anastomoses as well as observing how the collagen within these vessels are ultimately impacted by non-hemostatic flow rates.  She hopes her research will provide answers and pave the way for longer-lasting dialysis access solutions for patients affected by end stage renal disease.

Attendance is open to all level of researchers within our city-wide KUH research community. Contact chicago.kuhforward@northwestern.edu for the Zoom link.

Research in Progress is an informal forum for trainees affiliated with the Chicago KUH FORWARD TL1 grant to share what they are currently working on with the greater Chicago KUH FORWARD scientific community. Trainees share their research in progress and receive feedback from a cross-disciplinary audience. Additionally, Research in Progress helps trainees practice their scientific communication and acquire the necessary skills to present ongoing work and improve their speaking skills.

Research in Progress is held virtually on the fourth Monday of every other month at 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM and open to the Chicago KUH FORWARD research community.

Please contact chicago.kuhforward@northwestern.edu for Zoom meeting information.
