Join NU’s own Prof. Neil Verma and Chicago-based performer and musician Nick White as they: describe their experience on the set of Killers of The Flower Moon; explain how the history and technique of audio drama and radio sound effects were depicted onscreen; and demonstrate some of the antique sound effects instruments featured in the film.
Neil Verma is Assistant Professor in Radio/TV/Film at Northwestern University. His books include Theater of the Mind: Imagination, Aesthetics, and American Radio Drama (Chicago, 2012), and Narrative Podcasting in an Age of Obsession (Michigan, forthcoming).
Nick White is a Chicago-based performer and musician. He is a classically trained percussionist who also specialized in silent film. He owns the world’s largest collection of antique sound effect instruments meant for use in silent films, and actively performs with them at silent film screenings.
