Gender is an ever-evolving part of our society; a continually reinforced structure often used to understand and evaluate each other. The same can be said of casting. As our industry aspires toward a more intersectional discourse on stage, how can we revisit and remake our casting processes to embrace this future? How can the theater be a site for social change both on and off stage?
Join us for a discussion with some of the cast & team of AMTP's Wonder Boy as we define and explore the use of gender-expansive casting, genderless casting, gender swapping, nonbinary & transgender casting, and other non-traditional casting practices in theater. By openly and actively exploring these customs with local TGNC professionals in the field, we hope to help validate the diverse spectrum of gender identities & expressions in theatrical performances and the real world alike.
