About the speaker:
Professor Olugbenga Akindele Silas is a distinguished Nigerian medical doctor specializing in pathology. He holds the position of Professor of gynecological pathology at the College of Health Sciences, University of Jos, and serves as an Honorary Consultant Pathologist at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH). Silas has previously been Deputy Dean of Clinical Sciences at the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, College of Health Sciences, University of Jos, and was recently appointed Dean of the Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences at the same institution.
With over two decades of experience in cancer diagnosis and research, Silas has a particular focus on HIV-cancer epidemiology in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). He earned a Master of Science in Health Services Outcomes Research (MSHSOR) from Northwestern University, Chicago, in 2016. This degree was obtained through the NCI-sponsored Northwestern and Jos University Research Training Program in HIV and Malignancies, with Lifang Hou, MD, PhD and Robert Murphy, MD serving as Multiple Principal Investigators (MPIs). Upon completing his MS degree, Silas returned to Nigeria to advance the clinical and research landscape at his institution.
