Lunch presentation by Titus Hjelm, Professor in the Study of Religion, Department of Cultures, University of Helsinki
Lecture Abstract: Europe has long been thought of as the model for classic secularization theory. But religion is back on the public agenda in Europe today, in debates about (Muslim) migration, the rise of conservative discourse concerning gender and sexuality, and the role of religion as a public utility. This talk discusses the dynamics and unintended consequences of the new visibility of religion in 21st century Europe.
