Lucy Thurber is a TV/Film Writer and award-winning Playwright. She has written films and/or tv episodes for networks and streaming services including HBO, Amazon, AMC, Hulu, Starz, among others. Lucy is the author of fifteen plays: Port Isabel Texas, Some Revolutionaries, Transfers, Where We’re Born, Ashville, Scarcity, Killers and Other Family, Stay, Bottom of the World, Monstrosity, Dillingham City, Orpheus in the Berkshires, The Locus, Perry Street and The Insurgents. Off-Broadway and regional productions of her work include: Transfers as part of MCC Theatre’s 2017/18 Season, as well as New York Stage and Film’s 2016 Powerhouse Season; Orpheus in The Berkshires at Williamstown Theatre Festival; Bottom of the World and Scarcity at The Atlantic Theater Company; The Insurgents at Labyrinth Theater Company and the Contemporary American Theater Festival; and Monstrosity, produced by 13P. Her OBIE Award-winning five play cycle The Hill Town Plays was produced Off-Broadway by Rattlestick Playwrights Theater in conjunction with The Cherry Lane Theater, The Axis Theater and The New Ohio Theatre. Lucy also wrote the adapted text for QUIXOTE, conceived and directed by Lear deBessonet, a site-specific performance with the Psalters made for The Broad Street Community. She is an alumnus of New Dramatists and a member of 13P, Labyrinth Theater, Rising Phoenix Rep and New Neighborhood. Lucy has been commissioned by Steppenwolf Theatre, Playwrights Horizons, Yale Repertory Theatre, the Contemporary American Theatre Festival (CATF), Houses on The Moon, Williamstown Theatre Festival and the American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.). Productions of her work have received Lucille Lortel and Drama Desk Award nominations. Honors and awards include a Manhattan Theatre Club Playwriting Fellowship, the first Gary Bonasorte Memorial Prize for Playwriting, a Helen Merrill Award, a LILLY Award, an Off Broadway Alliance Award, an OBIE Award Special Citation, as well as residencies at The New Harmony Project, Berkeley Repertory, Sundance/UCROSS, The Orchard Project and SPACE on Ryder Farm. Her work has been presented and developed across the country, from The Public Theater in New York to Perseverance Theatre in Juneau, Alaska. She is published by Dramatists Play Service and represented by George Lane at CAA. Lucy is also a passionate educator and formerly the head of Graduate Playwriting at The New School. She has taught writing classes for NYU/Tisch, Columbia University, Sarah Lawrence College, Primary Stages and MCC Theatre.
